On the open road...

The fully-loaded off-road vehicle that I rented following the news of the outbreak is loaded with a kit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bug-out_bag) containing all the items that I require to survive for the next seventy-two hours after evacuation. Included is a disaster plan with a list of emergency centers, rally points, and possible evacuation routes. I had spent my whole pay check on that kit of supplies. I am glad that I had.

I have always been “Miss Independent” but right now, I could really use someone else beside me. My cat is with me but she is aware that something is wrong. Her vivid yellow-green eyes keep looking up at me and mewing in distress, wondering where we are going and when will we be getting there. A rosary is clutched in my left hand. I have been saying “Our Father” and “Hail Mary” out loud while trying to pick up a radio station that is still in-service.

The cell phone keeps loosing bars; I might be in a dead-zone. I have been making calls to almost everyone. Some are not answering. It’s getting dark. I must reach my destination soon or I won’t be able to sleep tonight.

Oh God, I am scared.
